Here's a peek into one of Tania's hydro-theraphy sessions with Zoe of Pawsitive Sensations, Certified Canine Massage Therapist and Owner of Pawsitive Sensations -
www.pawsitivesensations.com.
Each session starts with Tania warming-up by walking briskly around the pool 3 - 4 times, then its into the water for hip/leg rotations/warm-ups, and then she's off on her laps. Bliss ..... Initially she could only do 7 laps; during last Friday's session, she swam an awesome 21.5 laps !!!!! ... Yeay, yeay and double yeay !!!!
We go to a nice swimming pool at Club4paws - www.club4paws.com, which has a step down from the wooden floor into the main pool. I like this as its very practical and safe, especially for easing recuperating dogs like Tania into the pool. If not for this step, it would be very dangerous for an injured dog to step in. It also serves as a 'resting pad' as you can see, when Tania needs a break.
Zoe is very attentive and watches Tania like a hawk, focusing especially on the strength and progress of her hind legs whilst swimming. In between laps, she also checks on her legs and back for cramps, and continues the leg rotations in the water.
After a nice shampoo and shower, we drive over to Zoe's store at Turf City for the second part of her treatment, ie. dry Physio-Therapy with loads of leg stretches, which are, of course, still very, very painful for Tania.
After 2 weeks of therapy we were amazed and thrilled to see Tania able to stretch her operated leg up to her ear in an attempt to scratch it ... I have been the 'official ear scratcher' the past few weeks.
Two sessions later, we were even more amazed when she climbed down the 4 steps adjoining our dining and living rooms !! Eureka !!! Such progress!!!
The montage shows Zoe (in pink/red) and Mummy (yes I'm really getting fat) giving Tania an encouraging hand, doing leg rotations/warm ups in the water, swimming laps, taking a rest on the pool step when she's pooped out, and of course shaking off all that sparkling water which she thoroughly enjoys. Then, its a nice snooze in the car on the way to Zoe's store at Turf City for her 'dry' Physio-Theraphy. Check out the club4paws van as well ..... its so cute :)
As reward for all her hard work, Tania gets lamb meatballs from the U.S. Bakery in Turf City as all that swimming really builds up a ravenous appetite :)))
